about my prints

Paul in his darkroom

All of my limited edition prints are exhibition quality, and are made from large-format 4x5 negatives. Each print is individually hand crafted personally by me, using only archival materials and procedures. Starting from the negative, the image is fine tuned over several darkroom sessions to bring out the expressive feeling of the final print.

I uses only fiber-based paper, which has been shown over the years to be far more stable than the more modern resin-coated paper. I selenium tone each print to provide "depth" and archival permanence. Mounting and matting are done using only the finest, archival-quality all-rag mat board, and the mounting adhesive can be removed by re-heating.

I can also provide unmounted prints by special order (e.g., for museum collections).

While most people will want to have their photographs matted and framed to their liking by a professional frame shop, I can supply a matted, framed print using UV glass and a simple metal frame for an additional $125 (cannot be shipped).

Brown-toned photographs are priced at the next higher level due to discontinuance of photographic materials. Please contact me for availability and price.

concerning direct sales:

While I neither encourage nor discourage direct sales, if you have been introduced to my work in a gallery, PLEASE purchase my work through them. I do occasionally make direct sales to people who have "discovered" me independently of my gallery shows and representation, but I charge the same price, for three reasons. First, if I make the sale, I need to do all the leg work. Second, I depend on my gallery representatives (I do not really want to be in the retail art business), and I cannot undercut them by offering discounts. Third, since I am selling limited edition work, it is a very bad business practice to offer different prices depending on where the work is sold. Thanks for your understanding.
